Pete McCullagh Memorial Fund

It is with much sadness that we share Mr. Peter McCullagh’s obituary. May Pete rest in peace and may the Lord’s perpetual light shine upon him.

Peter Aloysius McCullagh, whose life exemplified Faith, family, and service, passed away on November 3, 2015. Peter was born on August 30, 1929 to Peter and Mary McCullagh, of County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, in Roslyn, NY.  Peter graduated from Bishop Loughlin High School, Brooklyn NY, earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, NY, served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy, and earned an MBA from Xavier University, Cincinnati OH.  As a founding member of the St. John Neumann Catholic Church parish, Peter actively participated in the Choir, the Men’s Club, and was instrumental in establishing the Men’s Emmaus experience.  Peter also contributed his time and talents to the St. Vincent De Paul Society and to the Homeowners Association of Sabal Chase.  Peter proudly celebrated his 33rd anniversary of sobriety this year. Peter generously shared his thirst and enthusiasm for knowledge by teaching mathematics for 20 years in the Miami-Dade public schools and 12 years at St. John Neumann Catholic School.  He inspired students to explore the world of math with joy.

Peter is survived by his wife, Rose Garvey McCullagh and her son, Sean B. Garvey (Lourdes) and daughter Erin M. Alfonso (Jorge). Peter was predeceased by his first wife, Barbara Ellen McCullagh, the mother of their surviving children Peter B. (Sherry), Mary T., Eileen M. (Mark Graham deceased), Helen A. (Anthony Cocchiara), Patricia S. (Thomas Sadaka), and Carolyn R. (Ian Williams).

Peter was predeceased by his brother Charles B., and is also survived by his sisters Maureen Raber (John Raber deceased) and Sr. Geraldine McCullagh, SMR. Peter is also survived by grandchildren Yvette Fitzgerald (Joe deceased), Latisha Ralosky (Mark Ralosky), Jon Howard (Anita), Toni Sadaka, Joseph, Paul, and Peter Cocchiara, Elyse and Tess Elena Williams, great grandchildren Kyle Fitzgerald (deceased), Ryon and Tyler Ralosky, Dillan Fitzgerald, Zachary and Zane Howard, Sean Michael and Patrick Alfonso, Brian and Emma Garvey, and one great-great grandchild Kendal Fitzgerald.

Pete and his family’s wishes are that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. John Neumann Catholic School “Pete McCullagh Memorial Fund” to continue to support the church and school community that he so dearly loved.
